been too long...

As the title reads, it had been too long for a lot of things including the last time I actually read a blog. The list that follows is not exhaustive but just some of the few things that were a long time coming (or not) and happened recently -

1. India - finally this summer, I managed to make my way back home albeit for a short 3-week duration. It was pretty exciting. In fact, I was on the road more than I had bargained for which took me from Pune to Leh to Srinagar and then back to base in Bombay. There were other places that I wanted to go, but there is only so much your body can handle and time can provide. The highlight of the trip was the vacation with the family in Kashmir, the home cooked meals and meeting up with friends with whom you had the honor of starting sentences like, " you remember when... " (figuratively). With all the meetings there accompanied a peculiar realization - no matter how long it has been since you spoke to them or saw them, it takes all but five minutes for things to go back to the way they always were and supposed to be.

2. Florida - Thanks to some initiative by ACS( a certain someone), and a lot of abuses from a certain Maadu sitting in Gainesville, found myself heading to Florida one fine morning towards the end of the last year. By the time morning turned to evening, the temperatures rose and so did the humidity levels. At the end of the longest drive in my driving history, I was sitting on a table sharing rice, Sambhar, and some very delicious vegetables with ACS, Bloke, Suri, Agent S, Malpani and Riteja. It felt good - lots of food and friends on the same table! Plans to go to Orlando and eventually celebrating the New Year in Miami got chalked out while Bloke decided to iron his laundry. And so it came to pass that New Year was welcomed looking for South Beach in Miami! But when you have friends, who needs to get out of the car.

3. Went North - it has been almost two years, and I barely get a chance to get out of Raleigh, for lack of initiative and the general laziness. The occasions that I did get to do that, I have traveled in the southern direction - Florida. So, when the Con decided to make his East Coast trip, it was the perfect reason to go north in the summer and last week I was sharing the same room (after 3 years) with Vattal and Rushil. We went looking in Obama backyard and found ourselves stuck with stuffed animals, neanderthals, Mr. larger-than-life Lincoln, each other, and a busted manhole pouring out sewage on the streets of Washington, DC. The next day included a trail, waterfalls and torn shorts! It presented Vattal the perfect opportunity to show off his DSLR and more. Anybody who is reading this and knows Vattal, please do ask him to give me permission to put his pics up.

  4. Write - all I can recall writing in the past two years is, let's see - reports, homework, assignments, more homework, more assignments, on-occasion exams, codes, more codes, and wait-for-it, youguesseditright - codes! And today, finally managed to write something more than just one or more of the things from the list above. There is something very liberating about putting your thoughts into words and then trying to ascertain the extent of insignificance it exerts.

Nothing more is popping into my head right now, but I am pretty certain, when I began the list there was more that i had intended to write about. Presumably, it would be futile to attempt to stretch this any further. But the hope remains, that soon I shalt find the time, the energy and the words to put my fingers on the keyboard, again, for this very purpose.

Nothing but the Truth... (movie review)

Nothing but the truth      (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1073241/)

this is a good movie...
people who are interested in movies involving journalists and government secrets leaked, may be a li'l disappointed.

the movie is centred around the character - Racheal Armstrong - a journalist who writes this story about how the president of the US attacked a country inspite of being told that they were innocent by a CIA agent.

it shows the level of commitment that she is willing to go to protect her source and how she is willing to face the consequences of doing so...

the ending is rather amusing, its not like the cliched underdog story. its far from any of that...

saw Matt Dillon after a long time - here playing the attorney representing the government.

Alan Alda - his age seems to be showing on him now, but nevertheless a good performance...

but the movie was carried, to a significant extent, by the brilliance potrayal of the journalist by Kate Beckinsale. she brilliantly switches from being the journalist/suburban soccer mom... to the harassed iron-willed journalist who wouldn't give up her source as a principle.

note: i wouldn't put this 1 in the you-definitely-gotta-watch-it category
it would be more apt in the if-in-the-mood-of-an-interesting-movie category...

clarification...

it was recently brought to my notice that my previous blog was somehow not in the right spirit of "blogging". i am not allowed to write stuff like "certain some1" etc. etc. ... , because i've generated curiosity and now it's my moral duty to reveal the "certain someone" and the "certain someone else".

so in reply to that - please do not bother as to who these "certain" people are! when the time is right, things will reveal themselves or better ; you will CHANGE and no longer bother about who they were. ( i sincerely hope its the latter!)

i am sorry, if i have misled you in someway. it was not my intention to do so and please accept my apology.

but rest assured - you will have the answer to your question.

Change...

change - the only thing that is constant in this world.

I have no clue who said this, but whoever did, is very true. if you never gave thought to this, look around - who has been the same since the first time you met them?

i don't know what prompted this, but i have a vague idea. it must have been a few discussions with a certain some1, about how a certain someone else had changed, after certain events.

i always thought i knew what this certain-someone-else was like, or at least i thought i did. but then as i mentioned, CHANGE struck! and now when i look at this certain someone else, i don't ever recall having known this person. although a few months ago i would have put my ass on line claiming i could predict things about this person.

although when i think of it, i didn't remain quite the same person i was at one time. things do change, for the better or for the worse. stopped reading as much, got lazy, priorities changed, got into certain "habits", experimented with things earlier unheard of, got short-tempered, blah blah blah...

its either you accept it or just wait to get shocked, when it does hit you! but this is one thing i suppose very few can deny. personally, i hate change - like things the way they were, but guess that is why, i get shocked, more often than not.

worst part is, people do change, no matter how vehemently you may want to deny it. it's subtle, but it's out there for you to notice, if you look carefully. so, next time you want to tell a person - hey man! you haven't changed a bit - look again!

a happy day

how long have i longed for days,
which are happy like today.
there's something springy in the air and me,
the time feels like an endless month of may.

i woke up to a bright and chilly morn,
after a sleep as short as a nap.
cleaned up and had breakfast,
every step and minute seemed to fill in the gap.

then as the sun came up bright and searing,
i'm on this bus to somewhere for some work.
no clue, what awaited me at the end,
and in my mind i let my doubts lurk.

with a close friend and friend probables,
who as the sun would pass i would, with, bond.
we reached our destination, a world,
a new one, never experienced, but looking fond.

we entered the foreign grounds,
not knowing what fate beheld there.
never knowing that it would,
place us at such heights of pleasure, OMG where.

as we walked out of the grounds,
our minds filled to the brim with ecstasy.
it was a story from a book,
something we wanted, as good as a fantasy.

our bodies tired, our bellies growling,
we sought then to quench both.
as the sun crossed the heights of its peak,
we were at the Empire, on its froth.

then came the "chaats"[slime - you clumsy fool! ;)] and "parathas",
and a small table to support.
and we ate, as we must, and we did,
not a morsel remaining, as was the report.

followed then the ice-creams and challenges,
thrown open but no time to spare.
ice-creams were from the shop called ideal,
the service of which, we could rather not bare.

but that's a spot we must pass,
as other things which are sour.
so i will finish this, not push it,
stretch it or bend it and say no more.

dedicated to the day we made the trip to St. Joseph's Engineering College, and the fun time we had.

BACHNA AE HASEENO ( IMBA DYOOOOD)

ah... bachna ae haseeno... really bachna, haseena or not!!!!

It's what we will call the " imba dyood " movie, the " killer " movie, for a long time to come. Man, Ranbir kapoor's crappy... that guy can not act for nuts. The chicks are worth a watch although. So, if you are looking to rejuvenate your imaginative skills in certain areas, this ones worth a shot. Lot of unnecessary cleavage [ ;) ].

His friends are like uncles.

The first part went by and we thought - ok half the movie done, now hopefully, the second half will compensate for it. But then the second half happened!!! As a result of this, when the EXIT gates opened we were the first ones to run for it, not to mention the rest of the theatre following in quick stead. Our joy was on cloud no. 9 when we realised that we managed to skip the last 5 seconds of the movie.

But overall the whole movie was very enjoyable, 'coz of the fact that there were so many things in the movie we could pick on.

But the best part was the delicious sizzlers we had at SIZZLERS RANCH earlier in the day and the laugh-a-riot session in the van that we came back at 1 in the morning. Inadvertently ponky and sheki had their face to faces literally!

Only blotch is that I managed to loose a book, which i had bought earlier at DEPOT. Let's hope those adlabs fellows find it and keep it.

until more of similar excursions

POLITICS!!!

well, the time on my comp reads as 09:54 a.m. as i write this piece of history in our college. As i write this more and more people are walking in and updating on the latest going on in classes as many of us come to know, who will be representing us for the coming year!

The discussions begin with who won the election, then to the alliance( yea, unfortunately, we do form coalitions here also :P ) he belongs to, the final years who are probables for the President, the ENGI Con and the INCI Con. Then it steers to the people( i.e. who can be hated for all the wrong things on earth) who must have stabbed to make the guy, who won, win. If it doesn't stop at that then it goes on to enlighten the negligent ones about how personal grudges led to the downfall of the one who fell!

scene yesterday night

The whole block was buzzing with final years trying to convince the third years, trying to make them see reason as to why they should choose the side they want them to. But the more important decisions were being taken in the rooms of the uber influentials in the batch where the incentives and booze parties et al were being distributed. and then the decisions were made, for it to be executed today morning.

present scenario

All the guys from a specific class, where the guy who they wanted to win went on to loose, sit bitching about the people who they think must have stabbed their candidate. [ :) ]. Then there are the final year decisions being taken right here right now [ :P ] ( as if these opinions count).
And now people want to talk to the guys who have won and try to make them vote for us.[ :) ]( high hopes! ).

Bottomline

We guys were not made for politics, somehow its not the way we function. Guys who won, the guys who were backing them, played dirty on some level or the other. At least 3 of the CRs who got elected have wrongfully come into play. They can be taken out right now, but even knowing this also, we are sitting here instead of doing something, if we really had it in us to play the politik game!

And even if we decide to play dirty, well its a fact, we can't even get near them, when it comes to playing dirty!!!

the fun parts:

the guys who contributed to the winning guys esp the fore-campaigners sit like victorious generals, just returned from a battle, waiting for the war to commence!

there's a whole lot of bitching going on - and the best part is some of the most intricate details of their character is under microscopic scrutiny!!!

then there had been a lot of pamphlets distribution and the guy who took the cake, the icing, the cherry on top and the chips in the plate ( govinda govinda, govinda, govindaaaa... ) is the guy with a campaign video ( " OTE for ME" ).

I guess thats done for now, for more updates, there'll some 10-15 more blogs talking about the same thing and the different views. [ :) ]

anyways have fun... until something as big as this happens again ( don't think thats happening for a long time...)
